Tender Madness Exhibition

In times of continuous information overflow, global awareness potentiates our feelings of crisis and the feeling that we need to fix the world. Yet, this outward-directed focus can dilute our inner awareness and rob us of our true agency.

‘Tender madness’ occupies Daisy with questions surrounding various states of perceived reality, contradicting multitudes and what controls we try to apply to stay seemingly safe and well in a chaotic and complex world. Between darkness and light, Daisy’s deeply psychological and numinous paintings elude a primordial sense of aliveness and peace, inviting and almost demanding a self-reflective moment from the viewer. These paintings can hold you hostage or set you free.

Daisy (Leopold M. Tomaschek) is a multidisciplinary artist focusing on intuitive painting and poetry. Primarily educated in the field of Design and Architecture he changed his career and whole outlook on life after a series of personal events, leading him to direct most of his energy into fine arts and his new study towards psychotherapeutic work. On display, you see a selection of artwork generated by this process of turning a life around, an end and a beginning of a journey.

“I often wonder how wild the mind is if we don’t tame it. We can never truly keep what we want, even once we get it, and our reality is merely perception, mutable and soft. The search for meaning to me is in the doing, it is not found. Like love, meaning and fulfilment is a ‘doing word’.

But I think we have it backwards, it is not ‘to make your dreams come true’, but the dreams make you come true – however that may look and however painful the necessary changes might be. The energy that creates this tender madness of life emerges from the unconscious realm.

To surrender myself to it allows me to notice that the world is not mine to change, it wakes me up to my presence, and how that creates resonance and impact that is far better than any misguided attempts to make the world a better place. 

To establish a relationship with my unconscious, I use a process that includes meditation, movement, sound and improvising music. I also journal and work with my dreams in depth-psychological methods. The ritualistic embodiment of the inner life becomes my artistic expression, no matter the medium. The exercise of being truly present balances my awareness between action and inaction, it guides my process of observing and creating.

Any act of creating is an attunement of unconscious energy with the chosen medium. It happens spontaneously and only in moments of true presence if the conditions are inviting. Can I surrender myself to the madness? If I can the imagery reveals itself like a dream but I am not asleep. After such active imagination, I often look at my work and think: “I could never have come up with that!” 

Painting is a way to meet myself and the world deeply. It’s as if I compulsively paint a diary for no particular reason. I like to invite you into a moment of presence because if we lose being present we lose our most precious ability – to love deeply.” – Daisy
